What were your first impressions of each other?
Phoebe Tonkin: “I think my first impression of her was when I saw 2:37. I was in such awe of her and her performance. We properly got to know each other on a three hour car drive to Coachella. We bonded over kale chips, boys and red wine and the rest is history. I think my first impression of her was that she was the coolest girl I had ever met. I later learned she was not only the coolest, but also the kindest. She is a ray of light in my life and I am blessed to have her.”
Teresa Palmer: “We first met in Bondi at a screening in 2009. I remember being introduced to her but I had already clocked her as soon as I walked up the stairs to the event. She was the most striking girl I had ever seen and I couldn’t stop staring. Statuesque and THE EYES!! I remember thinking that my boyfriend at the time (who introduced us) most certainly had a crush on her! Her bright shining energy and bounce was absolutely infectious. It wasn’t until 2011 when the stars aligned and I drove her to Coachella that I knew we were bonded for life. The way we were like missing pieces of the puzzle to each other was really magical and so began our journey.”
How did you start working on the film, The Ever After?
PT: “I had known Teresa and Mark were writing this film together. I was so impressed they were being so vulnerable not just with each other but in this script, these characters they were writing were so real and honest. Teresa had said from the get-go she had an idea for a character for me, and I was so grateful to be involved in something like this.”
TP: “Mark and I were in the midst of courting each other over email when we decided to write a film together. I think we were so passionately falling in love that we felt the need to channel that energy creatively. Only a few months after Mark and I met we started to work on the film. We knew that we wanted to capture her magnetism on film so we wrote the role of Mabel for her and then hoped she would say yes!”
Did you draw from any real-life experience?
PT: “I have spent quite a lot of time in New York and around similar characters as the one I played. There’s something dangerous and dark about the world some of those types of characters live in. I think the script really showcases that side of it, and allows the audience to just be an observer.”
TP: “Yes we very much blurred the lines between reality and fiction. So much of what is on screen we drew from experiences in our own life. We touch upon the entertainment and fashion industry, substance abuse issues, mental illness, sexual abuse, all of which either one of us or people very close to us have navigated through. It is an intensely personal film exploring the challenges of marriage and the fundamental breakdown of communication.”
What is your fondest memory from the film set?
PT: “I think the fondest was probably just being in New York, shooting in such an organic and instinctive way. Mark was very open to ideas in terms of dialogue and blocking, and coming from a TV background it was very different to the way I normally work.”
TP: “When Mark proposed to me in the bathroom before we filmed the first scene of the movie! It was entirely spontaneous and crazy. He used the ring my character wore in the film to propose to me because the ring that he designed was taking too long and he got impatient. The crew kept trying to get in the bathroom to light it for the next scene and Mark kept kicking the door shut while on one knee.”

I’d like to apologize for abandoning this site in the past couple of months! Life has gotten so busy now that I’m in college and I don’t have a lot of time to update as much. I’ve also put new themes up for both the main site and gallery thanks to Sin21! Other than that, I should be catching up on news and photos from the time to time in the next upcoming weeks!
GOING AFTER EVERYTHING ESTHER LOVES – When Klaus (Joseph Morgan) discovers that Elijah (Daniel Gillies) has been afflicted by Esther’s (Sonja Sohn) magic, he heads to the bayou in search of an antidote, but quickly realizes he’s not alone. Armed with intel gathered by Aiden (guest star Colin Woodell), Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) teams up with him, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), Cami (Leah Pipes) and Josh (guest star Steven Kruger) and launches a plan to take down Vincent (guest star Yusuf Gatewood) by exploiting his one weakness. Meanwhile, with Esther determined to carry out her plan, Vincent and Kaleb (guest star Daniel Sharman) are forced to reconsider their own strategies. Intrigued by Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) unwavering attempts to create an unlinking spell, Kaleb lets her in on some secrets from his past and brings her to a place he frequented in 1914.
“Chasing the Devil’s Tail” is set to air on the CW tomorrow, November 17th.
TVLINE.COM – When The Originals returns for its second season Monday (The CW, 8/7c), new hybrid Hayley has one goal in mind: “Right now, she just wants her baby back,” star Phoebe Tonkin tells TVLine.
Of course, even Tonkin — who assures us that Rebekah is only looking after Hope “for the time being” — admits that reuniting the Mikaelson family will be easier said than done.
“First, Hayley has to create a safe-enough environment so that she’s not bringing her child into a war zone, which is what the Quarter is right now,” Tonkin acknowledges. “She wants to live happily ever after, and that’s probably not going to happen given the world we live in, but for Hayley, that’s what she wants.”
Below, Tonkin teases more of what’s to come in Season 2, including Hayley’s growing “tension” with Elijah and a new, surprising friendship budding in the Quarter.
TVLINE | I know we’ll see Rebekah in Season 2, but will she and Hayley have any interactions?
Eventually, a little bit. That’s also hard because [Klaus and Hayley] have to keep up this ruse that the baby is dead. Essentially, Hayley has to pretend that she’s still in mourning, so she can’t just contact Rebekah and say, “Hey, send me some photos.” Hayley doesn’t even know what [Hope] looks like at the moment, but since the plan is to eventually get the baby back, I’m sure Hayley and Rebekah will run into each other again.
TVLINE | I ask that because I really liked the Hayley/Rebekah friendship that was developing in Season 1. Does Hayley have any friends like that in Season 2?
That was a nice little friendship. Hayley kind of leaned on Rebekah because Elijah wasn’t around a lot — he was trapped in a coffin for a period of time — and Klaus was so hostile towards Hayley. Rebekah was kind of the only one there while Hayley was being hidden in the compound so no one would know she was pregnant. But there’s definitely room for Hayley to create unusual friendships in Season 2. Hayley and Marcel have bonded a little bit, and there’s a really beautiful friendship budding between Hayley and Camille. They’re both the older females that aren’t witches, so they lean on each other a bit.
TVLINE | I’m told there’ll be some growing “tension” between Hayley and Elijah this season — even more than before. Can you elaborate?
It’s sad, because they obviously care about each other very much, but now that Hayley’s a hybrid, she’s petrified that Elijah won’t respect her or try to be in love with her the way he did when she was just a gypsy werewolf girl. She doesn’t want to get hurt again, and it’s not that she’s ashamed, but she’s very confused about her identity. She’s angry, resentful and hostile about the fact that she’s now a hybrid. I don’t think she wants to include Elijah in that anger she’s feeling right now.
TVLINE | And how are things between Hayley and Klaus? They now have a child together and they’re both hybrids, so do they have a new relationship?
It’s funny, they’re more or less partners in crime now. Now that she’s a hybrid, she doesn’t have anyone else to learn from, so Klaus is sort of becoming her mentor. He obviously cares enough about Hayley, and he wants to bring Hope back into a friendly environment, so they just want to protect each other right now.
TVLINE | Onto guy No. 3, Jackson! What’s Hayley’s relationship like with the Crescent wolves now that she’s not one of them?
She definitely has to build up their trust again. They resent her for becoming a hybrid. She wants to be able to protect them as their leader, but they don’t trust her right now, especially given how close she is with Klaus. But Jackson is still on her side, and he’ll try to show their people that she’ll still protect them — but it’ll definitely take a lot of persuading.
Hey guys! As you can tell, I have put up a new theme for the website! I decided to keep the theme pretty simple so I hope you all like it! Second of all, I leave for college next week, but I am going to be catching up on all the latest Phoebe news and photos as soon as I can. If you’d like to help me with the website, please don’t be shy and shoot me an email!
The Originals will be entering its second season on The CW this fall, but already actress Phoebe Tonkin is hoping for a third, fourth, or even tenth season.
According to the actress in a recent interview with Joslyn Davis from Clevver News (featured below), baby Hope might have been sent away at the end of season one, but as the series progresses she will not be forgotten altogether.
“I definitely think now Hayley’s goal is to create a safe enough environment in New Orleans to bring hope back…” explained Tonkin, referring to former werewolf and current hybrid Hayley. “But she doesn’t want to bring her child back to a war zone”.
It’s likely that the witches, who tried to kill Hope in season one, will be first on Hayley’s list, though they certainly will not be the only ones. With enemies at every turn and Hayley, Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) will enter the new season with a lot of decisions to make. Tonkin noted that the effect of sending Hope away in an attempt to keep her safe could have longstanding effects that stretch out into future seasons.
As for playing a hybrid, Tonkin is absolutely thrilled. “To be able to play the best of both worlds, the vampire and the werewolf,” she said, “I’m really excited”. The actress also let it slip that she’d been fitted for her “hybrid fangs”, suggesting that Hayley might be out to spill a little blood in the coming episodes inside of standing pregnant on the sidelines as she reluctantly was forced to do during season one.
The Originals returns to The CW for its second season on Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Phoebe attended the Comic-Con International 2014 in San Diego on July 25th. I have added photos of her arriving at the event, during the event, and the portraits to our gallery.
